Registered Therapeutic Counsellor
Janet began co-facilitating women’s mental wellness workshops 20 years ago at the Pastoral Institute of Calgary. She continued to create and facilitate workshops around mental and physical wellness for corporate companies throughout Calgary in order to provide tools for CEO employee retention success. Janet worked with individuals suffering from anxiety and self-esteem challenges in both corporate and community capacities throughout Alberta as well as BC. These experiences led her to establish her private practice – “Clarity Counselling” – in Smithers. Janet holds a Professional Core Competency Diploma Designation of RTC, Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (#2080), and is registered with ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada).
The link between mental and physical health is often misunderstood. They are often regarded as separate entities, but actually, go hand in hand. In fact, the World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. The perceived disconnect between “mind” and “body” creates the misconception that mental illness is not a physical disease. In reality, mental health has a direct impact on your physical health.
Thus, joining the Trillium Integrative Wellness Centre was a natural next step in Janet’s continued vision to provide mental-physical wrap-around client care. Janet’s approach to providing professional counselling/psychotherapy services is integrative & tailored to suit your needs. Things happen at all stages of our lives and at multiple levels, & every situation is unique to us alone. These circumstances challenge how we think, how we perceive, how we believe & how we respond.
As like most people, I have experienced my share of trauma, shock, anxiety, self-doubt and life challenges. Life is messy. I have not always handled difficult situations with grace. I have not always had the tools to move forward. With life and all it’s vast opportunities for learning and growth, I can say with positive reflection, that armed with new knowledge, our struggles can shape us into stronger, more resilient individuals. – Janet Holyk
Outside of work, Janet enjoys copious amounts of laughter shared with her family, connecting with friends over good eats and good wine, staying active with yoga, cycling, random, sometimes embarrassing car dancing and adventurous walks with the family dog. She loves to travel and dream about travel. Self care practices include devouring books, massage, solo sojourn experiences and good sleep.
